Body Scan with Dr. Kari Logan

In this guided meditation with Dr Kari Logan, you will learn to work with mindfulness as noticing without judgment or elaboration and practice this skill using the sensations present in the body as the anchor for your attention. Our sensations are always present, yet so often we fail to accurately notice them as we are often caught up in our expectations and learned responses. This meditation allows us to return back to the actual sensations and  practice welcoming all our experiences without labeling or judging them.

Over time and with regular practice, the skills of mindfulness can allow us to shift our experience from anxious to at ease. Regular practice is what works for you–maybe that is every day, maybe that is every other day–but just like any skill, the more frequently you practice the quicker you learn the skill. Remember, there is no “right” way to do this; this is your own path and journey, this is a way to come home to yourself, so take this practice of noticing without judgment or elaboration and practice in the ways that feel good for you. When I work with people in individual sessions, I generally recommend this guided meditation once a day. Consider what commitment of practice you are willing to make to yourself.

If interacting with or being present in your body is challenging for you, consider starting your practice with a guided meditation focusing on external observations.

If you want to read more about mindfulness as a practice, check out this short blog post. And remember that this is a practice, this is a skill that is cultivated over time and like a garden the harvest will be seen over time (and potential for immediate benefits, too). A body scan or mindfulness of sensation practice isn't a one and done activity, I would expect you to continue this practice over a weeks to months time frame with the next steps in that practice is learning how to apply these skills you learned in meditation to the other parts of your life. This is also a process where extra support is often needed. If you are located in WA state, please reach out and schedule a free consultation to discuss your goals and places you need support.
